Nutrition

There are few rules for nutrition while on chemotherapy other than to try your best to keep up a good balanced diet. While your appetite may lower, you will need to focus most on calories and protein. Try to eat or drink foods that are high in calories and protein. Keep up an adequate intake of fluids, enough fluids daily to make your urine pale yellow. Boost, Ensure, Carnation Instant Breakfast, or other nutritional supplements help you to take in lots of calories and protein in a small volume. So if you can’t face a big plate of food, use one of these supplements instead. If you are eating meals, add up to 3 cans of supplements daily. If you are not taking meals, then use up to 6 or 7 cans daily. These supplemental beverages also count as fluid intake, so you get twice the benefit. Special diets to treat cancer should be discussed with your physician, as they may interfere with your cancer treatment as designed by your physician.
